The Magistrate's Court is the Summary Criminal Court and the Small Claims Court for South Carolina residents. It is established under the SC Unified Judicial System supervised by the Chief Justice of the SC Supreme Court through the Office of Court Administration.

The Magistrates' Court is responsible for trying all traffic cases and misdemeanor criminal offenses that carry up to a 30-day jail sentence or $500 fine. Criminal cases that have more severe consequences are referred to the General Sessions Court.
The Magistrates Court also handles small claims disputes up to $7,500 in value and landlord-tenant disputes. Civil cases that exceed small claim maximum value are removed to the Court of Common Pleas.

- If you need to provide proof of registration, insurance or a valid drivers license, you must come to court to present that information to the officer.

Paying a Traffic Ticket Online:
To pay a traffic ticket online, go to www.sc.gov. Hover over (if you are using a computer) or scroll down to (if you are using your cell phone) the 4th tab: Residents, Visitors, Business, GOVERNMENT. Select COURT PAYMENTS. You should be on the page that says "HOW TO PAY A TRAFFIC TICKET". Scroll down and pick NEWBERRY COUNTY. You will be directed to a page where you must click ACCEPT. You will need your TICKET NUMBER/CASE NUMBER and your LAST NAME as it is on your ticket to pay.
Please note that if you make a payment online, the court will not receive the payment until the next morning.

We hold night court on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of each month beginning at 5:00 pm.
